A montage includes aerial views of rivers meandering through the rainforest of Guyana, views from the river with banks of thick jungle on either side and a waterfall cascading down into a deep plunge pool.
Along the river banks are the dwellings and homes of the local communities.
Tribespeople are seen going about their daily lives, using the river as a means of transportation, a source for food and a supply of water.
This clip is from the series Seriously Raleigh.
Teacher Notes
Prior to watching the clip they could research where Guyana is and how families live, work and survive. Look into the uses of the river for them.
Then children could look at the similarities and differences between the uses of the river in Guyana compared with England and label maps showing these.
They could identify the features of the river and plot them on a map and label how these features are formed and state whether they are man-made or natural features.
Curriculum Notes
This clip is suitable for teaching Geography at KS2 and KS3 Level in England, Wales and Northern Ireland and at 2nd and 3rd Level in Scotland.
