The Jewels, the Hole, and the Evil Mole by Erin D.

The sun was setting and the evil mole popped out the ground and looked up at The Castle. He laughed about his plans. He heard talking and footsteps and went back to his underground burrow.

The footsteps belonged to Eden and Jessie, they were coming to The Castle on bonfire night to watch the fireworks and because they wanted a mystery to solve. Castles are always the place to go if you want to solve a mystery.

Everyone was distracted by the fireworks. The kaboom-booms were like a gorilla beating its chest so loudly you could hear it across the city. There were turquoise, red and yellow fireworks like birds dancing across the sky.

When the last bang was finished everyone started to go home. Wait a second, not quite everyone was going home. Eden and Jessie stayed and heard a shout that was louder than any fireworks. 'My jewels have been stolen! Someone help me' cried the Queen. The Queen was devastated when she realised her jewels had been stolen. 'Guard, I command you to find who has stolen my precious, precious jewels'.

The guard started searching for a thief when she heard an evil laugh and followed the sound. She turned around and found a hole in the floor. The guard cried 'Oh no, I can't squeeze through there, especially after I ate that whole chicken for dinner'. Eden and Jessie were just passing the room when the guard sighed 'only a child could fit down that hole'. Eden and Jessie paused in the doorway.

The guard saw them staring and they took a few steps into the room. They crept towards the hole and when they got to the edge the guard told them they needed to go down it. They jumped down, saying 'YIPPEE, we have found our mystery to solve!'.

BUMP. They landed at the bottom of the deep and narrow hole, they were a little bit frightened as they had never been in an underground burrow before. They crawled along like snakes with legs, until they saw gloomy lights coming from a doorway.

They peeked through the doorway and saw the Queen's jewels next to a treasure chest. Suddenly they heard their Mum's voice from the top of the hole 'Eden and Jessie, it's time to go'. Someone else heard the voice as well. A small frowning figure came to the doorway to see who was calling, it had dark eyes shining in the light. It was a mole. A jewel stealing mole.

Eden chased the mole out of the hole and the guard grabbed it tightly. But where's Jessie? They saw a shine coming from the hole as Jessie came out holding the jewels.

Eden and Jessie were invited to eat a roast dinner with the Queen, and the Queen agreed to let them keep one jewel each. The mole was trapped in a prison underneath the castle, but who knows he might burrow out.
