The Unicorn's Birthday Surprise by Isabella B.
It was a sunny day in the enchanted forest and Rainbow, the unicorn, was busy preparing for her birthday party. She had baked a delicious cake, decorated her house with balloons and invited her friends. She was so excited that she didn't notice she had written the wrong address on one of the invitations. She accidentally sent it to a lonely dragon who lived in the mountains.
The dragon, whose name was Blaze, was surprised to receive a letter in his cave. He never got any visitors because of his fiery breath and scaly appearance. He opened the letter and read:
"Dear Friend,
Please come to my party on Sunday at 2:00 pm. The address is 123 Rainbow Lane. I can't wait to see you there!
Rainbow, the Unicorn"
Blaze felt so happy. He had never been to a birthday party before and he wondered what it would be like. He wanted to go but knew he would have to dress up as a unicorn, otherwise the others would be scared of him! He searched his cave for a unicorn disguise and found a sheet and a horn-shaped rock. He wrapped the sheet around his body and tied the rock to his forehead. He looked at his reflection in a puddle of water and smiled. He was ready to go.
He flew to Rainbow's house and knocked on the door nervously. Rainbow came to the door and gasped. She saw the large creature, with scaly wings and a tail, wearing a disguise. She was scared but also curious.
"Hello, are you here for my party?"
"Yes, I got your invitation. Happy birthday!"
"Thank you, but I don't recognise you. What's your name?"
"I'm Blaze."
"It's nice to meet you Blaze, come in."
Blaze followed Rainbow into her house. He was nervous and hoped that the other unicorns would like him.
Rainbow introduced Blaze to her friends. They were shocked that she had invited a Dragon and were scared to be around him. Rainbow told them it didn't matter what someone looked like, everyone deserves to be included. They watched Blaze smiling and having fun. He didn't notice that the unicorns had seen through his disguise.
It was time for cake but no one could find matches for the candles! "Oh no" said rainbow, "now I can't blow the candles out on my cake!"
Blaze suddenly had an idea. He went to the cake and blew a small flame to light the candles. He heard gasps around him and realised he had blown his disguise.
He gazed down at the floor ashamed to look at his new friends. He knew they would be terrified but as Blaze looked up, none of them looked scared. They were smiling!
"Thank you" said Rainbow, "you saved my birthday!" Blaze was so happy. For the first time in his life he didn't feel alone. He felt special.
They had given each other an amazing gift. The gift of friendship.
