A Mug, a Jug and Some Honey by Ishiraa R.

It was a dull, grey, wet day. A miserable day. In fact, it was so miserable that the sky was crying! Inside the house with the blue door, with the big friendly lion-dog, that barks at the postman, the T-Cuppers and the Saucerers were having an argument, on the breakfast-table.

The Saucerers were upset. "We're always being spilled on and splashed on! The water is boiling hot! The tea and coffee leaves stains on our lovely, shiny faces!", they sobbed. "WE SUPPORT YOU AND YOU JUST DON'T CARE!"

"It's not our fault!" cried the T-Cuppers. "We are meant to be full! A full cup is a happy cup, and a happy cup means that whoever drinks from us, is also happy! WE JUST WANT TO BE FULL!"

"OK, everybody, let's stop shouting and calm down" said Jugger. Jugger was always able to calm the cutlery down whenever there were arguments or disagreements. He was tall and strong. Jugger could be trusted.

A crowd had gathered. Honeybun, Lumpy and his gang of sugar cubes, shuffled closer together to make room for the McForks and the McKnifes.

"You both have a point", said Jugger. "When you make a cup of something, it needs to be full! That's the way you serve tea or coffee, or any hot drink. But, if you're already full with hot water, when you add the other ingredients like milk, sugar or honey, the hot water will spill over".

The T-Cuppers and the Saucerers continued to shout at each other, over Juggers voice.

"I think I know what The Saucerers are feeling", thought Honeybun. Honeybun was wise - but she did have a bit of a temper. "The T-Cuppers can take boiling water, but the Saucerers are more sensitive. That's what the T-Cuppers don't understand. I have to say something!"

"Hey, T-Cuppers!" Honeybun blurted out. "You're treating the Saucerers like some sort of… …BIB! Don't you see? They carry you and you don't care what falls on them. Maybe they can't stand the boiling water as much as you can!"

Then Big Mugsy piped up "Honeybun's right. And, if you won't stop squabbling, the People will stop using you and you'll be put into… STORAGE!"

Everybody gasped and silence fell over the table.

The T-Cuppers spoke first "We realise now how we've been treating you. Jugger, Honeybun and Big Mugsy are right. We're so sorry, we have been very selfish".

The Saucerers look relieved. "It's okay, we accept your apology. Perhaps we can all learn to work together. When you put the hot water in, just don't fill it quite so high".

"And I'll be more gentle when I jump into the cup", said Lumpy.

"And we will try to stir more carefully", sang the McT-Spooners

Everyone agreed.

And so, the Cutlery Crew were able to work together in peace once again. And all it took, was a mug, a jug and some honey!
