School Report from Claydon

Pupils at Claydon High School in Ipswich play reporters and aim to produce an online news report by 4pm as part of the BBC News School Report Day 2008.

Acting as News Editor was year 10 pupil Clarissa who was checking that reporters were on time with their stories and editing their scripts.

With more than 800 pupils at Claydon High, the school itself has proved fertile ground for stories. The students have included year seven and year eight football successes, and recent healthy status for the school as part of their news features.

This involved two pupils interviewing the Deputy Head on what the school had to prove to achieve healthy status, and then spying on the teachers at lunch time to see if they could spot any pizza or chocolate bars!

At lunch time many of the pupil reporters were despatched to ask pupils' opinions on anything from plastic bags to the price of alcohol.

Some stories were researched before School Report Day, like the latest on the SWISS centre, a sixth form centre planned for students in Ipswich.

Others broke during the day, like supermarket chain Morrisons recording record profits. With a store just down the road pupils were straight on the phone.

The afternoon started with a debrief on what was left to do before going live at 2pm. Pupils said they had really enjoyed the day.
