Sarah the Cook

Dick Whittington

When I got the tickets (writes mum Kathy) for the Ipswich New Wolsey production, I was pleased for my children, but I wasn't really looking forward to it because I find pantomimes a little boring and very similar. However, I've changed my opinion!

The rock 'n' roll panto is brilliant and I found that I was laughing a great deal and I loved the singing, dancing and music.

Sarah the Cook (the Dame-figure played by Gary Lake) was excellent - very funny and expressive. So too is Shirley Darroch who plays Thomasina the Cat - her feline characteristics were very realistic.

I particularly enjoyed Alice (played by Emily Grace) - she's a talented actress who can sing, dance and play a range of musical instruments. Fairy Nuff (played by Nicola Bryan) was lovely, full of charm and just delightful. The evening went by very quickly and I wasn't bored at all.

Dick and Thomasina

The only criticism is the noise level when the band are playing is too loud at times and I felt a bit uncomfortable, but I am overly sensitive to any loud music. However, no-one else seemed to be bothered by it apart from my husband who seems to have the same problem as me!

Overall, I thought the show was super and I would recommend it to all families whatever their ages.

10 year old Erica Belton writes:

I thought the set was very colourful and interesting, I also also thought the music and the instruments were fantastic and the singing was brilliant too. I liked the way the actors used poetry to tell the story.

Sarah the Cook was very funny. I liked all the sound-effects and jokes. I thought all the actors were very colourful and talented, especially Alice who plays four instruments, dances and sings.

I like Fairy Nuff, King Rat and all the squirting from the trap door (I think a few people got soaked!). I think Dick Whittington is a fantastic show and I recommend it for children and adults because it'll make you laugh!

8 year old Tom Belton writes:

I think that Sarah the Dame was very funny and colourful. Dick Whittington was very good at playing the guitar and he was quite funny as well. Thomasina the Cat was wierd and wonderful. I especially liked King Rat - he was very evil and I like evil people. And I liked it when he kept coming in and out of the ground.

I like Billy Barnacle's big sledge hammer when he started hitting everyone with it. I liked Fairy Nuff when she kept coming out of the ground when she kept laughing "ha, ha, ha."

I thought the actors were very clever being able to act as well as sing, dance and play an instrument. I liked Alice because she plays the saxophone and keyboard and she sings and dances so well. The drum player was loud and fantastic. The guitar players were really brilliant and cool. We should warn you that the band gets very loud at times. I think everybody should go and see the Dick Whittington show.

WOW! I went for a friends 18th birthday treat, and although we were all a bit sceptical, we were assured it would be brilliant and it was! We sang and danced our way through both halves and did our best not to distract the actors (although I don't know how successful we were!) Brilliant

The show was exellent! the music was great and the actors were brilliant. The music got very loud at times but my ears can take any loud music. my friend hannah has also seen it and she thought it was great. i went with my stepmum, her sister and my stepmums mum. we thought all the actors were great, but we decided that our favorite character was danny burns as king rat. we agreed that even though hes good looking in real life we thought he was even better in his king rat costume. me and hannah referd him as 'HOT '!

I've been to the rock and roll panto several times over the years, and this one was just as great as the others. Everytime I see Shiley Darroch perform I'm in awe - her voice is incredible - the best live one I've ever heard, and her acting has no limits. I'm also always impressed with the versatility of all of the actors. They can sing, play a range of instruments and act to perfection. The stagecraft is wonderful - I've always loved the way the actors go back opn to play an instrument once they've finished the scene. Best part of the show? Alice and King Rat's duet to Meatloaf's Dead Ringer For Love - it was a great performance. I also really enjoyed the "lord...........MAYOR" extravaganza, that was hilarious. Exceedingly impressed yet again. Well done the wolsey! xx

I have been to the Wolsey rock and roll panto for the last two years and if they are anything to go by this one will be just as good - I got my tickets early in the year to go on the Saturday before Christmas and I know it will be the real start to the festive season for me.
