An Ipswich lad, I wanted to travel and live abroad from an early age. For the past 17 years I have lived in either Singapore or Sydney, depending on the job. As I rapidly galloped to my 40th birthday it dawned on me that corporate life no longer held much interest. | | Duncan Ironside |
So early in 2004 I left Asia and decided to pursue a more reasoned and less stressful life. Consequently, in the summer of 2004 I found myself on a clean water distribution project in Honduras. Two months of digging trenches and laying pipes left me fulfilled and trimmer than for many years. I was even promoted to assistant latrine builder by the end of my stint. Once I returned to the UK, I retrained as a plumber. I have returned to Honduras for a couple of reasons. One is to find out how the projects have progressed and do some more work, and secondly to see more of Central and South America. I left in May, a day or so after the Championship play offs, glad to be away from the doom and gloom. Oh and if you haven't already noticed from my reports I am and always will be a rabid "Town" fan. |
