Bury Bombers

Bury Bombers

by Julie Rix
The second round of the Great Britain Wheelchair Basketball Association Junior League proved to be a challenge too great for Bury Bombers last weekend. The tournament washeld at Stoke Mandeville Stadium on Saturday 13th February.

With only six players to call on, coach Jill Anderson knew that they would do their best. As Nottingham Jaguars were unable to play, there were two matches to win. The Wolverhampton Rhinos' team was large and they had several players older than Bombers'. It was finally lost 24-4.

Undeterred Bombers then played the London team, Force. This was make or break and Bombers found reserves of enthusiasm and courage to keep the score neck and neck. Unfortunately many shots at the net were unlucky ones and opportunities for baskets were missed and they narrowly lost 11-8.

Bury Bombers players were George Collins, Aiden Hughes, James Newton, Jack Perry, Adam Redfern, and Alex Redfern.

Bury Bombers meet every Thursday evening in term time at County Upper school in Bury St Edmunds at 6.45pm – 8.15pm and would welcome any disabled young people wanting to try this exciting sport.
