Inside Lives: everyone has a story inside them
stormWhen I Got Stuck By Lightening

Author: Kathryn Birch
When a thunderstorm struck Kathryn Birch's school yard, Kathryn certainly didn't end up singing in the rain.

Inside LivesHear - and read Kathryn's story

"Before I knew what was going on...I felt this shock run through my brolly and my arm. The brolly flew out of my hand."

Kathryn is 18 years old. Her hobbies include playing sport and watching films.

Inside lives was really interesting and fun.

The odds on this happening are similar to those of a plane crashing or someone winning the lottery, so obviously I wasn't expecting it to happen to an ordinary girl like me.

I was at school and my French lesson had just finished.

I looked out of the window to see if it was still raining, 'cause I didn't want to look like a drowned rat by the time I got to my next lesson.

It was chucking it down! So I got my brolly ready.

Me and my friend were walking across the yard when we heard rumbles of thunder.

Before I knew what was going on...I felt this shock run through my brolly and my arm. The brolly flew out of my hand.

I looked up and saw a load of Year seven and eight kids staring with pressed faces against the window, pointing and gawping in disbelief.

I had just been struck by lightening.

My friend picked my brolly up and asked if I was okay. 'Yeah, I'm fine', I said, and although I had no feeling in my right arm whatsoever, off we went to music.

Luckily the teacher believed my story, probably 'cause I was in a state of shock and my hair was on end. She was one of those teachers who would put a plaster on your head if you had a headache. She just told me to sit in the corner and rest for an hour. And I was fine! I didn't crumble into dust when anyone touched me like in the cartoons...

That was the first and hopefully the last time I'll be struck by lightening.
