My story is about a plastic fish who accompanied me as I went on a 7 month travelling spree last year. I am very found of that little fish and the memories I have of him.
Inside Lives was unique and highly enjoyable. It makes radio more accessible and is an asset to BBC Radio Stoke.
I'd like to tell you the story of the fish who came globetrotting with me. Before his travels, he had been stationed on top of a PC overlooking Mark at his desk at Royal Mail. He was coloured yellow and pink, made of plastic and could squirt water. He never felt like a true Stokie and hankered after more warmer climes. First, we took a longhaul flight to 'Mehico' where he assisted teaching English to a small town school, climbed the highest mountain in Michaocan one early morning, was bemused by baying donkeys, played poker till late in the night and tasted the best tacos in. He then flew to Colombia worried about stories of drug barons but in the end all he encountered was some horrifically strong chillies and weird spiky fruits. They also put pongey cheese in their hot chocolate which he thought distasteful. He then went to Panama and was thoroughly bored with the Panama Canal so he suggested we flew to the San Blas Islands with a hunky Israeli... we all had a grand time snorkelling and eating sea fish. Fish was tempted to stay as he saw many of his relatives down below in the clear water but he understood there was much more of the world to see yet. In Guatemala the fish choked on sulphuric smoke erupting out of a volcano. He was amazed at the beauty of the landscape and the ladies who carried colourful blankets on their heads. We then returned to Mexico City which we found too big and scary so friends whisked us off to Acapulco for a rest. When we came back, the fish was tormented by a little girl who kept forcing him into a tank of goldfish, so we decided it was time to move on to India. In India, fish enjoyed the food, company and night life. He saw elephants, temples, the rivers of Kerela. The only disappointment was the rollercoaster at Veega Land- the biggest theme park in India- which was far too short and cranky compared to the likes of Alton Towers. The fish enjoyed himself so much that he stayed while I returned back to Stoke to tell the tale. |
