"We were very poor. Everyone was poor because at that time it was known as the Depression."

My story is one that I get very upset about, because I lost my dad for just sixpence, I will never forget it.
Inside Lives was just wonderful in every way. Thank you!Sometimes they say 'Oh the good old days. I wish we could go back to the old days--things were better then'. But were they? Just sixpence. That's only 2 1/2p in today's money. I was just 5 years old when my dad was taken ill, so we sent for the doctor. He came, but at that time you had to pay on a card of sixpence a week. We were very poor. Everyone was poor because at that time it was known as the Depression. We knocked on every door on the street and asked everyone we knew, friends, family and acquaintances if we could just borrow the sixpence. But everyone was holding on to what little money they had got. It took us 6 1/2 hours to finally manage to get the sixpence we needed to get the doctor to tend to my dad. Then he was taken to the hospital. But it was too late. He fell asleep. So I lost my dad, for just sixpence. So just think how lucky we are today. I do--every Christmas, and every Father's Day.
