Salvation Army

Observations On Christmas Carolling

Author:
Ken Dale
Ken Dale says we should spare a thought for the Salvation Army carol singers who have to stand out in the cold at Christmas time.

Inside LivesHear - and read Ken's story

Ken is 70 years old and plays in 2 brass bands. He enjoys woodwork, computing, photography and football.

Ken lives in Talke in Stoke-on-Trent. He has 2 daughters who live in London as well as 2 grandchildren.

Inside Lives was very enjoyable. I worked with a nice group of people who had very interesting stories to share.

When you are next doing your Christmas shopping spare a thought for the Salvation Army Band playing carols

I have been playing carols with Chesterton S.A. band for over 50 years now

So it can be a challenge to endure the time between carols, when its
snowing or your feet are freezing

We all find different ways to amuse ourselves and stop thinking
of the conditions

The horn section of our band were the best of friends as well as being
great Practical Jokers,

My Father in Law ERIC a baker ARNOLD a school caretaker
and BILL the local greengrocer

They use to find little riddles or puzzles to GET ONE OVER each other

Sadly they are no longer with us as they were all PROMOTED TO GLORY some years ago

But on this BITTERLY COLD Saturday morning in the square at Market Drayton about half way through a long 4 Hr stint Dad turns to his best mate Bill and says...... Hey Bill ....How many
Pigeons are there on that there roof

looking up.....""" at the roof of the Corbet Arms Hotel

BILL starts counting 1 - 2 - 3----------12 - 13 !!!!

Nar says Dad ....Theight ....Rong.....................Bill starts again

1 - 2 - 3................... 13 says BILL !!!!

Theight ...Rong says Dad

So the count starts again.....1 - 2 - 3 by this time there are
15 of us counting.... with BILL... hanging on to everybody's count....
see he says we've all counted... 13 .... TOLD you I'm right

Your ALL RONG says DAD....There's no Pigeons !!!...They're SEAGULLS !!!
