Inside Lives: everyone has a story inside them
Christmas presentsChristmas Can Be Lonely
Author: Betty Lloyd
For lots of people, Christmas is the loneliest time of the year. In her Inside Lives story Betty Lloyd tells us how she’d be spending Christmas alone in her flat if it weren’t for a very special group of people.

"I'm very grateful to everybody who puts in all the hard work to make Christmas day a special one for me"

I like cross-stitching, embroidery and crosswords.

I wanted to tell my story to say Thank You to everybody who gives up their Christmas Day so I can have a lovely time.

I found Inside Lives a bit difficult at times, but very fulfilling.

Christmas is a time of year when you are given and receive gifts. It's a happy time for most people.

But Christmas is a very very sad and lonely time of the year for me. I don't see my family and I have no contact with them.

But this year I'm looking forward to Christmas day thanks to some very kind people who have given up their own Christmas so that I can have a wonderful time.

Because of them, I won't have to spend Christmas day on my own in my flat.

Instead I will be picked up by a social services ambulance and taken to Northwood day centre.

I'll be welcomed by staff and volunteers and shown to my seat, where I'll have a cup of tea and a piece of fresh made toast.

We'll have a lovely Christmas carol service and readings. Then it's dinner time, then after that we'll have a game of Bingo.

When it's time to go home I'll be given a present of food and goodies.

I'll feel sad when I go in my flat, but my budgie will be waiting and my friend might invite me to go over to her flat.

I'm very grateful to everybody who puts in all the hard work to make Christmas day a special one for me and for all the help and kindness they show to me.
