Leek Soup
Working in the Coffee Shop by Kayleigh
What’s good about it?
The people I work with, really,
And the people you get to meet.
They come from all over everywhere
Not just England,
Tourists from America, France, Japan…
Most speak English,
If not – they point!
I speak a little bit of French and German
Yes. I use it – little bits,
But pointing works well.

I’ve worked here for round about
Eighteen months,
Part-time, after school.
I know all the regulars,
Saturdays and Sundays.
One couple, every
Sunday afternoon,
Two cappuccinos –
They didn’t have to ask.

You’re always around people
So you need to enjoy them.
Sometimes they say
‘That was a really nice meal’
You can tell by their faces
They’re not just saying it,
You know they mean it –
And that, to me,
Means I’ve done my job well.
