Leek Soup
Bad Egg & Good Egg by pupils from Churnet View Middle School
BAD EGG
Two-year-old egg
In the palm of my hand.
Uncrackable.
You can tell it’s mouldy inside.
No chick.
No shiny pink featherless embryo.
No chance of living,
Growing,
Turning into
Yellow, fluffy
Life.

GOOD EGG
In the palm of my hand
A big, fresh egg.
Shiny.
Breakfast!
Careful…
Go like that – crack! –
On the edge of the pan.
Pull the shell apart,
Slide the egg into the pan.
The egg-white is clear,
Like water, like oil.
Then it bubbles, it spits,
Turns white,
Ready for eating.

Year 5 pupils, Churnet View Middle School
working with writer Pamela Brough Sandiford
