| | Following Brookside's famous lesbian kiss, and The Bill getting in on the same-sex lip-sucking stuff, comes Staffordshire's own ... Marmite!
Yup, the famous old black stuff (made in Staffordshire at Burton on Trent) enters the 21st Century with an advert set to shock, as it features the first same-sex kiss in a TV advertising campaign.
Hunky .. er .. sandwich
If you haven't seen it, the new ad is set on a traditional British beach, with a hunky lifeguard (pictured right) standing in his hut preparing and eating a MARMITE and cheese sandwich. However, his snack is rudely disrupted by the wild flailing and faint cries of a drowning man thrashing around in the water, desperate for help from our hero.
Seeing the man, the lifeguard drops his sandwich, leaps into action, and gives the kiss of life. The disorientated man then awakes with an amazing taste on his lips - MARMITE!
With closed eyes and a craving for more of the strong savoury taste he pulls the lifeguard's head towards him and begins to kiss the lifeguard back.... with relish...
What's Your Opinion? It's all exciting stuff for the dark delicacy which celebrated a 100 years of manufacture last year... but... what do you think?...
Is a same-sex kiss in a TV advert a good idea? (because adverts should reflect life as it's lived today) - or a bad idea? (because same-sex encounters are too serious to be treated jokily?).
See the comments saying what you think....
