Towns and VillagesYou are in: Stoke & Staffordshire > Places > Towns and Villages > Loggerheads ![]() The old sanitorium LoggerheadsLoggerheads is in Staffordshire but close to the borders with Shropshire and Cheshire. The village takes its name from the name of the main pub - which used to be known as The Three Loggerheads, Funky Facts about LoggerheadsThe village used to house a tuberculosis sanitorium hospital because the village is based on a hill, and thus was above the damp air of the lowlands and the soot and smoke that used to blow over from the Potteries. The 'Cheshire Joint Sanatorium' stood in 250 acres of woodlands, and opened in 1923. It closed in 1969. The Burntwood in which the sanitorium stood was once a large oak wood, part of the Blore Forest. Loggerheads, on the Staffordshire/Shropshire border, has the honour of having Telford postcodes, a Shropshire address and, as its council, Newcastle under Lyme, in Staffordshire! The old name of the pub - The Three Loggerheads - means the three fools. WeblinksFor links to websites about Loggerheads, see the links box in the top right-hand corner of this page.
