It's part of the celebration of more than 25 years of Children In Need... November 18th 2005 is Children In Need day and BBC Radio Stoke will be covering events across Staffordshire, reflecting how people are raising the money and getting involved. This year the challenge will be to raise more than previous years – it always happens. To make a big splash, the station is having a “Pirate Radio Day” – with staff dressing up as pirates. Treasure HuntThe Breakfast show with Janine Machin will feature a Supermarket Dash and a Treasure Hunt. There will, of course, be more than the odd tune or two from the vaults of pirate radio playlists from the 60s. Members of the public are invited to call in to our studios at Cheapside in Hanley on the day – either to see us or to drop off your cash. On the BBC Stoke & Staffordshire website, you can also leave details of your event. Look for the link on the top right hand side of this page. When a child was born1980 was the year that Children In Need as we know it today began. Although the BBC had been raising money for underprivileged children since the 1920s, it wasn't until the dawn of the Eightees that the idea of the telethon as a vehicle for getting cash and entertaining the audience was born. Since then the appeal has gone on to raise £350 million and helped more than 60.000 projects. Hundreds of thousands of pounds for Children in Need has been raised in Staffordshire over that quarter of a century and the same amount ploughed back into help for local needy children. last updated: 07/10/2008 at 14:21 You are in: Stoke & Staffordshire > Children In Need > Ahoy There Mateys! |
