Tim Wedgwood interviewing Clive Hiller

Ask an Expert about... Pottery

Clive Hillier is a well-known voice on BBC local radio answering questions about pottery and antiques. We were overwhelemed by the flood of enquiries, but Clive still has advice about valauations for you

Due to an overwhelming response, we are unable to continue hosting a q&a messageboard.

A few tips from Clive ...

1/ "Many questions are about dinnerware and teaware, but, as these were mass-produced, ninety nine per cent of them will not be valuable, sadly."

2/ "If you can let an expert see the items, that is best".

3/ "Please collect as many details as possible before talking to the expert. Otherwise, it's hard to help!"

Guides

A useful guide can be found on potteries.org, and independent website.
See: http://www.thepotteries.org/find_pottery/identify.htm

Among others, the Louis Taylor Fine Art Auctioneers in Hanley (where Clive works) does a free valuation service.
See: http://www.louistaylorfineart.co.uk/Valuations.asp for details.

Does anyone know of any other valuation services they can recommend?
Please email us if you do.
