Schnyder powered her way up 634 places in the world rankings back in 1995 and was considered one of tennis' brightest stars.
However, her alliance with German faith healer Rainer Harnecker, who among other things recommended she drink massive doses of orange juice, stalled her career.
But the talented 24-year-old is back on track and had an impressive 2002, which culminated in an emotional title win in Zurich over Lindsay Davenport.
In six years of trying, Schnyder has never passed the last 16 stage in Melbourne but she will be more motivated than ever with the goal of regaining her place in the top 10 within tantalising reach.
