When Srichaphan went out of the Australian Open in the first round last year there was little sign that he would go on to become one of the stars of the season. In fact it was not until June that things began to turn around for the Thai with his dramatic win over Andre Agassi at Wimbledon. The surge in confidence that followed in the remaining six months of the season was obvious. Srichaphan made the final in Washington in August and the next week collected his first title in Long Island. Victories over Marat Safin, Tim Henman, Gustavo Kuerten and Lleyton Hewitt followed before Srichaphan claimed another title in Stockholm. It was a remarkable year and there is every reason to expect the 23-year-old to figure in the major events in 2003 after starting the year with a win in the Indian Open. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
