"This is beyond my expectations," admitted Hantuchova.

"I'm really happy because I was in the final of the (women's) doubles and missed that - I really wanted to take home one title," she said.

It was also a second Grand Slam title for Ullyett, who won the men's doubles at last year's US Open with fellow Zimbabwean Wayne Black.

Hantuchova and Ullyett, who were combining for the first time in a tournament, took the first set after breaking in the fourth game.

After trading breaks at the start of the second set, the Zimbabwean-Slovakian combination roared ahead and sealed victory when Ullyett intercepted a return with a volley winner.

Suarez, who was also runner-up in the mixed event at the French Open last year, admitted that the better pair had won.

"They were more consistent than us - we had our chances but we just didn't take them," she said.
