Bogdanovic won in straight sets after seeing team-mate Miles Maclagan lose the fourth tie of the match in three sets to Wayne Arthurs. Teenager Bogdanovic, who had impressed despite losing in straight sets to Lleyton Hewitt on Friday, was scheduled to face Mark Philippoussis. But the tall Australian was rested, leaving Woodbridge, a superb doubles player who has suffered in singles competition, to take over. The left-handed Bogdanovic strolled through the first set before falling behind in the second.
Earlier, Maclagan had made a bright start against the Arthurs, taking the opening set thanks to one break of serve. However, it was a different story in the second set as Arthurs began to find to his rhythm and the left-hander broke Maclagan twice to storm through the set 6-1 in just 20 minutes. The momentum was firmly with the world number 44 now and one break of serve in the third set was enough to take it 6-4. |
