Gamewatch: Novak v Ferrero
All the action as Juan Carlos Ferrero beats Jiri Novak in straight sets in the Tennis Masters Cup in Shanghai.

Spain's Juan Carlos Ferrero joined compatriot Carlos Moya in the semi-finals with a convincing win over Jiri Novak.

Ferrero won a scrappy opening set 7-5 after breaking Novak in the final game with two fierce backhands.

He upped his game in the second set and produced moments of sublime tennis that proved too much for the big Czech to handle.

Ferrero's forehand sees him home as some exquisite tennis in the final game proves too much for the spirited Novak.

Novak is determined to go out fighting as he starts with two aces. But it may prove irrelevant as Ferrero serves for the match

Novak appears to be wilting as Ferrero's forehand is becoming increasingly dominant. There only looks like being one winner at this stage.

Novak starts with purpose and finds two big serves, but Ferrero's speed at returning a drop-shot at 30-0 and a dismal double fault from Novak at 40-30 help the Spaniard clinch a breakthrough.

Ferrero 7-5 2-1 Novak

A missed overhead smash at 15-15 proves a costly error for Novak. He is punished with two unstoppable serves, including another ace from Ferrero.

Ferrero 7-5 1-1 Novak

Ferrero makes Novak work for the game, taking him to deuce before the Czech pulls out two crucal big serves. But the Spaniard looks like he can move up a gear at any point.

Ferrero once again starts a set sloppily but he recovers from a mis-hit forehand and a 0-30 deficit to play his best tennis of the match, including his first ace.

The rare glimpses of his Ferrero's class are keeping him in it, with Novak failing to punish the Spaniard's numerous unforced errors.

A couple of ambitious shots from Ferrero, including a fierce forehand stroke that fall just out, fail to come off and Novak manages to stay level.

Novak makes an ill-timed double fault at deuce as Ferrero, having started nervously, once again levels this scrappy contest.

Another controversial line call seems to deflate Ferrero as he makes string of unforced errors to hand the advantage back to Novak.
