Carlos Moya was briefly ranked number one in 1999
Date of birth: 27/08/1976
Nationality: Spanish
Grand slams: French Open 1998

Carlos Moya has worked his way back to the top echelons of tennis after a back injury at the US Open in 1999 put him out of the game.

Moya had briefly topped the world rankings at the start of that year, but his greatest moment came in 1998 when he defeated compatriot Alex Corretja in the final at Roland Garros.

A year earlier he had reached the final of the Australian Open as an unseeded player, only to be overwhelmed by Pete Sampras.

After his injury lay-off, Moya took some time to re-establish himself, but really found his form in 2002.

Although he struggled in the Grand Slams, he won four titles, inlcuding the Cincinnati Masters.
