Moya stuns Agassi
Carlos Moya
Moya had never beaten Agassi before
Andre Agassi crashed out of the Paris Masters with a straight sets defeat to Spain's Carlos Moya on Friday.

But top seed Lleyton Hewitt showed the form that has made him world number one by beating Roger Federer by the same 6-4 6-4 scoreline.

Hewitt will now meet Paradorn Srichaphan in the last four after the Thai battled to a 7-6 (7-3) 7-6 (7-3) win over American Andy Roddick.

The loss means 12th seed Roddick will not be playing at the season-ending Masters Cup in Shanghai.

Moya next faces Marat Safin, who came through a tough encounter with home favourite Nicolas Escude 6-3 5-7 6-3.

Agassi's defeat coupled with Hewitt's victory extended the Australian's advantage to 63 points in the race to end the year as world number one.

"I'm pretty happy to be through in straight sets," admitted Hewitt.

"Even if I don't finish number one in a couple of weeks time I've still had a wonderful year. For me to be able to hold it at such a young age is incredible."

Agassi made three separate outbursts at the umpire during his match with Moya and blamed the official for his defeat afterwards.

"Carlos played better than I did today. He won that match. End of story," Agassi said.

"Line calls - you get some, you lose some. You hit a serve you feel catches the line - it's their (the umpire's) responsibility to be 100%.

"It's hard to live with somebody deciding to change the course of the match."

Moya, whose victory meant he qualifies for the season-ending Masters Cup, said: "I just feel I can't lose any more."

He joins Agassi, Hewitt, Safin, Federer, Juan Carlos Ferrero, Albert Costa and Jiri Novak in Shanghai.

Agassi lost the first set to a single break of service and fell behind at the start of the second.

The American was given a warning for swearing at the umpire as he served at 2-2 in the second set having just broken back, and for a while he threatened to turn the match around.

But Moya, who saved six match points to beat reigning champion Sebastien Grosjean on Thursday, maintained his composure and broke the American again at 3-3.

Agassi had three break points as Moya served for the match, but failed to make them count before the Spaniard clinched victory on his second match point.

Friday's results from Paris:

(1) Lleyton Hewitt (Aus) bt (8) Roger Federer (Swi) 6-4 6-4
(10) Carlos Moya (Spa) bt (2) Andre Agassi (USA) 6-4 6-4
