| Saturday, 19 October, 2002, 15:39 GMT 16:39 UK Your plaudits for Alan Shearer ![]() Newcastle United striker Alan Shearer scores his 300th career goal, the only current player to have done so. Congratulate football's top marksman. Alan Shearer joined the strikers' hall of fame on Saturday, scoring twice against Blackburn to notch the third goalsoring ton of his remarkable League career. Having retired from international football after Euro 2000, England's former captain has shown no loss of appetite for goals playing for Newcastle United. The 32-year-old hit 200 goals in April this year, and will now have his sights firmly set on scoring the 17 needed to record a phenomenal 250 top-flight goals. Congratulate Alan Shearer on a remarkable achievement. This debate is now closed. A selection of your e-mails appear below. My grandparents lived at Cross Row Gateshead and I have always felt an affinity with the great Newcastle club. In some way I was as proud of this player as if he was one of my sons. Joy Gray, Australia I think Al deserves recognition from the Queen after what he has done for his clubs country. He is a one of truest gentleman ever seen in the game. I wish him and his family all the best.
Richard Moller, England The only true all-round striker in the country. The original "leaping salmon". Pleeease come out of international retirement. Alan is phenomenal, when you consider how he has had to change the way he plays due to the severity of his injuries. Not only is his goalscoring record remarkable, but there is no-one better at holding the ball and bringing other team members into play. Heading, shooting, crossing, competing - he's supreme. Alan Shearer is and always has been a credit to his profession. The number 9 shirt at Newcastle always was special and he has taken it and Newcastle to a higher level. Congratulations Big Al. Thanks once again for all the joy you've given me as a Newcastle and England fan over the years. You epitomise everything about a top class striker. Every time you appear in the Black and White we know to expect 100%, you are our talisman and leader. Long may you continue! What odds on 400 before you eventually hang up your boots!
300 goals is some achievement. If he'd signed for Man Utd, he'd have notched 400 by now. Plenty of goals and plenty of money but few honours. Total genius. What a player! A legend from the spot! Imagine what he could have achieved without three injury-tarnished seasons. Alan is a Geordie gem and I think he's our most valuable player. Onwards to 100 career penalties and the continued sight of Big Al's raised arm! Big it up to Big Al! I'm a Blackburn supporter and I'm sure Shearer is the best player I will ever see in a Rovers shirt. It's great he got the goals at Ewood but only because we got five! Shearer is the best and most natural goal scorer this country has had for years. It is a shame his contribution to the national side ended when it did. Well done Alan! Skill, strength, perseverance, determination! And what vision! Spend some time coaching the boy Owen, please!
Shearer is a striker with great vision. He can bang goals in from any given direction. How about restoring him back into the England Squad. He can bring back the results of Euro '96. He is the deadliest striker in the Premiership at the moment. I've supported Newcastle for nearly eight years, I am 14 years old and Shearer is still the best in England (but watch out for Wayne Rooney). The man is a genius, he should come out of international retirement and help England to success. A fine achievement for a top-class Premiership player, but that's it. Shearer was unable to replicate this at international level and would have struggled in other European leagues. A very remarkable achievement for Alan Shearer, it is also a great source of encouragement for other players, not only in England but around the globe. Fantastic achievement! Hope he scores a lot more in the future. Well done Alan! Keep it going. If I could be any footballer I'd be Alan Shearer.... I can't think of a better plaudit than that!
Hats off to you man! You are an absolute star deserving endless praise for this magnificent achievement! Best of luck in your remaining career, Alan. Simply the best striker in the modern game. A true role model for kids around the world. It's a shame the English don't really appreciate him!! Well done Alan, what an achievement, proving beyond all doubt that you are far and away the best striker who has graced the Premiership, although hopefully we will have another 300 milestone for Sir Edward Sheringham in the next few weeks. If only the SAS were still the England strikeforce we would not be having the problems that we are now. A true champion in every sense of the word - hope to see you again wearing the three lions! Shearer has consistently been the best striker of the past decade and shows no signs of slowing up. For a quiet man he has immense power and passion for the game that many of England's current primadonnas will never understand. 300 goals... and still consistently turning out great performances as Peter Pascoe in Dalziel & Pascoe every Monday night. What a star...
Fantastic. Looks like the decision to give up international football paid off!! I'll never doubt your decisions again!! Well done! Although you don't play for Leeds, I wish that we had had your talents over the last four years or so. You are truly England's great sportsman of the last ten years. Where you on Wednesday night? Your country needs you, Alan!! CONGRATULATIONS ALAN on your goalscoring achievement, keep them coming! You're simply the best. Arise, Sir Alan! Congratulations Alan! You are by far the best striker in England for the last 10 years and at present. Make it 400. How about a Shearer-Rooney partnership for England? Well, maybe Sven needs some inspiration to reinvent the fading England side! Just a thought! 'Shear' delight, sheer quality, sheer class! Congratulations bonny lad, you're an absolute legend and a role model for any youngster. Keep up the good work Alan, and let's go for 400 goals!
Alan Shearer is such a magnificent ambassador for football. He encapsulates everything that is good in a sportsman: talent, commitment, respect, modesty and of course the ability to consistently perform and score goals. He deserves all the praise he gets and I only wish he had continued in an England shirt. And that comes from a Gooner! A great achievement by a great player, all my best wishes for this player who is always hungry for goals, and best wishes for his future. Alan's accomplishments in the modern game are quite remarkable. He is Mr Consistency in terms of his goalscoring record at the highest level. It is clear that he could be still doing a much-needed job for the England team. All this despite some very serious injuries, through which he missed a considerable number of games. Well done Alan, keep it up bonnie lad. Well done Shearer, you are sheer class. He is the best in his generation, and I will back him to get another milestone. What a pro, what a player! Well done Alan, in my opinion you are still the best striker to grace the Premiership. Long may your reign continue.
He's simply the best! Where else can we find a more consistent and fit player. A fantastic player, a fantastic striker and a fantastic ambassador for the world of English football! If only he was still playing international football we would have a guaranteed scorer, not strikers who only score when they feel like it, Shearer can score goals no matter what sort of form he is in! Here's to another 300 goals mate, and I wish I looked as good as you when I'm your age! What a machine! He was never better than at Rovers. Will Rovers be the last non Liv-Ars-Man U "minnow" winners? The guy is a legend. Shame Blackburn didn't read the script and allow him to at least bag a hat-trick! I'd just to congratulate a living legend, Alan Shearer, on scoring his 300th - go on big man, get more. Alan shearer's nothing special, best of British maybe, but that's are far as it goes. Congratulations Shearer, no player deserves it more. He is the epitome of a professional sportsman, and let's hope he continues to perform to the highest level.
Alan Shearer quite simply is the most complete English striker we have ever seen. It is a tragedy that he has missed around three years (and probably 100 goals worth) of football. He is a true legend and is still England's best striker. A fantastic player, a fantastic person, he is a role model to every youngster out there. A comprehensive achivement for a remarkable player! Best wishes! He does it week in, week out. He never goes through a goal crisis, he never plays up to the cameras, he just gets on and does his job brilliantly. I'm a Liverpool fan, but to not be able to recognise his achievements would be silly. Congratulations to Alan Shearer, a great striker, and a great player. As long as he doesn't score any more against Liverpool, I'll keep being happy for him. A consistent hunger for goal scoring in top-flight football. Well done - carpe diem. Howay Shearer! Well done canny lad, here's to another 300! | See also: 19 Oct 02 | Newcastle United 19 Oct 02 | Football Top Sports Talk stories now: Links to more Sports Talk stories are at the foot of the page. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
