| Sunday, 26 May, 2002, 10:38 GMT 11:38 UK Are Kiwis unstoppable? New Zealand convincingly beat England in the final of the 2002 IRB Women's Rugby World Cup in Spain. With only one defeat in the last 10 years will anyone upset the Black Ferns? New Zealand retained the Womens World Cup with a 19 - 9 victory over England at the Olympic stadium in Barcelona. At half time England came close to the Kiwi's, after Shelley Rae's drop goal brought the score to 11 - 9 in the Black Ferns favour. But New Zealand's Hans Myers confirmed the team's continual dominance in the sport with a final penalty in injury time. Can anyone take the Kiwi's crown? The Women's World Cup is an excellent opportunity for rugby to have a bigger profile in some less obvious countries. However, there are still very few teams with any chance, and only one team with real dominance of the game. There will always be big margins between the high and low seeded sides. |
