Retina injury sidelines Quinnell
News image
Quinnell will be out until mid-March
Scott Quinnell will be out of action for Llanelli due to serious eye injury.

The Scarlet No 8 has been diagnosed as having a hole in his retina and is unlikely to play until the end of March.

If there are further complications, he could be a doubt for his club's 11 April Heineken Cup quarter-final with Perpignan.

Quinnell left the field with blood seeping from his eye during Tuesday's Welsh Premier win over Cardiff.

"We don't know the full details, but the hospital has confirmed that Scott has a hole in the retina of his right eye," confirmed Llanelli chief executive Stuart Gallacher.

The news is yet another injury blow for the Scarlets. Both Robin McBryde and Stephen Jones have been forced to withdraw from Wales' Six Nations squad.
