The First Division side led 13-9 at half-time, but Cardiff hit back after the interval to run out comfortable winners. The home side were only a few minutes away from securing a famous victory after a Barry Thomas penalty gave them an 8-5 lead. But Ebbw scrum-half Brian Shelbourne kicked an injury-time penalty to level the scores and force 20 more minutes of play. Flanker Paul Williams settled the contest five minutes from time with drive over try from a lineout.
