Pontypridd stayed in contention for the Celtic League quarter-finals and the Pool B title after a narrow but deserved win over Glasgow.

In a keenly contested first half, Pontypridd started at a cracking pace.

Superb handling from midfield by the forwards and backs let in hooker Matthew Rees under the posts for a fine try, converted by Brett Davey.

Glasgow, shaken by an early set-back, went on the attack and, aided by poor Ponty tackling, opened their account with a well-taken try from centre Alan Bulloch.

In the 20th minute, Davey increased Ponty's lead with a 38-metre penalty.

Glasgow then came more into the action and had a chance to cut the deficit but Tommy Hayes missed the penalty.

Just before the interval, Ponty flanker Nick Kelly was yellow carded following a brawl and from the resultant penalty Hayes cut the gap to two points.

Ponty quickly responded with a break by centre Jason Lewis, supported by Davey, to send Sonny Parker over near the posts for a try that Davey converted.

On the resumption, Ponty quickly increased their lead with an easy penalty from Davey.

Minutes later, Hayes slotted over two penalties for Glasgow to cut the deficit to six points.

Ponty piled on the pressure in the last quarter and after a series of scrums on the line, Ceri Sweeney crashed over for a try that Davey again converted.

In the closing stages, Ponty added another touchdown from Michael Owen for a bonus point, with Davey again adding the extras.

The visitors scored two late tries from Stuart Moffat and Andrew Wilson, both converted by Hayes, but Ponty were already safe by then.
