New deal for Connacht coach
Steph Nel has agreed to stay on as coach of Irish province Connacht
Coach Steph Nel has nurtured a young side at Connacht

Coach Steph Nel's success in reviving Connacht rugby has been rewarded.

The South African has just agreed a new three-year contract with the western Irish province.

In his first two years in charge, Nel nurtured a promising young side.

Last season Connacht reached the Celtic League quarter-finals and enjoyed a promising run in the Parker Pen Shield.

'Worked hard'

Nel, who was also assistant to Ireland A coach Matt Williams last season, believes the future looks good for his team.

"We have worked hard on and off the pitch over the past two seasons," he said.

"The important thing now is that we continue to build on the level of progress.

"We have a young side but they have displayed great maturity.

Difficult group

"With people like Eric Elwood around to lead the way, we can approach the new season with confidence."

Connacht face a difficult group in the Celtic League draw.

They begin their campaign away to new Scottish side Borders and then have games against Newport, Cardiff, Leinster, Pontypridd, Bridgend and Glasgow.

In the Parker Pen Challenge Cup, Connacht will play French Division Two champions Mont de Marsan over two legs in a new knock-out format.
