| Semi-final framewatch Semi-final action from the Embassy World Championship (best of 33 frames; prefix denotes seeding): (6) Matthew Stevens (Wal) 16-17 (7) Peter Ebdon (Eng) Frame 33: A 55 break from Ebdon looks to have accounted for Stevens but the Welshman fights back before Ebdon completes a remarkable comeback. Frame 32: Ebdon suddenly finds the form which had deserted him earlier in the evening and a brilliantly constructed 138 break means the semi-final will be decided in the final frame, with the Englishman now in the ascendancy. Frame 31: Ebdon shows immense bravery as he takes on and pots a difficult pink when a miss would have left him staring semi-final defeat in the face. Stevens is 33 ahead with 35 left on the table when a mistake gives Ebdon the lifeline which the seventh seed grasps with glea. Frame 30: A fluent break of 76 from a confident Stevens leaves Ebdon needing to win the final three frames if he is to reach the final. Frame 29: In another tense frame, Stevens misses a pink just as he looks likely to edge to within one of the final, and Ebdon pounces on his opponent's mistake to stay in the hunt. Frame 28: Stevens finally ekes out a two-frame lead despite some tense moments. Frame 27: Stevens reclaims the initiative as another confident break, this time of 60, puts him back in the lead. Frame 26: Stevens looks to pull away as he knocks in a 51 break but it is not enough as Ebdon levels the match again. Frame 25: Stevens takes first blood in the fourth session as a break of 70 clinches the frame and the lead in the semi-final. (1) Ronnie O'Sullivan (Eng) 13-17 (5) Stephen Hendry (Sco) Frame 30: O'Sullivan knocks in a confident 51, but Hendry ends any thought of a dramatic comeback with a magnificent clearance to claim a place in the final. Frame 29: Hendry looks to be on his way to the final before missing a red to the middle when on 45, and a far more relaxed O'Sullivan clears up with 82 to keep the match alive. Frame 28: Hendry moves to within a frame of a place in the final with a break of 46. O'Sullivan has another chance to hit back but can manage only 23 before losing position, and Hendry clears the table. Frame 27: O'Sullivan again falters after getting into the balls first and shows the first signs of frustration with a reckless attempt at a red as two breaks of 29 prove enough for Hendry. Frame 26: Hendry capitalises on an early O'Sullivan error with a break of 46, and despite an excellent long red the Englishman cannot fight his way back into the frame. Frame 25: O'Sullivan opens with a break of 38 but slips out of position and misses a red to the middle. Henry hits back with a 58 before winning a brief safety exchange with a long red to wrap up the frame. |
