Punters land 200-1 gamble
Two gamblers have landed big pay-outs after a 200-1 shot won a horse race at Warwick.

They both put the rank outsider Beechy Bank in a double with 4-1 winner Legal Approach on Saturday.

Beechy Bank, a four-year-old filly, became the longest-priced winner in British racing since a horse called Equinoctial was successful in a minor event at Kelso in 1990 at 250-1.

The lucky punters , Ladbrokes customers from the North London area, backed Beechy Bank in an identical double with Legal Approach to win 6,030 and 10,050 respectively.

One placed a 6 win double on the horses, but backed Beechy Bank by mistake, having written the numbers of the horses as opposed to their names on the betting slip.

He realised his error too late to have it changed as Beechy Bank's race, the 1455 BST at Warwick, had started.

After the success of the longest-priced winner for nearly 12 years, the punter had a nervous 10-minute wait for the fate of Legal Approach, his intended selection, in the 1505 at Newbury.

Mark Johnston's charge came up trumps to land the punter an unexpected 6,030.

The second customer, in Finchley, backed Beechy Bank because of his fondness for Beachy Head, as he placed a 10 double on the same two horses which netted him 10,050.

"It is staggering that both clients backed the same two horses as part of their double selections," said Ladbokes spokesman Balthazar Fabricius.

"Certainly the gentleman who unintentionally backed Beechy Bank will no doubt be thanking his lucky stars but good luck to him."

Beechy Bank had never been anywhere near being placed in the previous four starts of her career.
