Four horses crossed the line locked together with the five-year-old just getting up to pip Sarafan in the 10-furlong turf contest. Long-time leader Forbidden Apple was third with British challenger Ulundi, trained by Paul Webber, in fourth. Beat Hollow is now trained by Bobby Frankel in the US but was previously at Henry Cecil's stable and was third in the Epsom Derby in 2000. Sarafan also has British connections, having been trained by Sir Mark Prescott before being switched to the US stable of Neil Drysdale. Beat Hollow's victory means yet another top-grade win for the hugely successful sire Sadler's Wells. The Arlington Million, which was the world's first $1m race when it was first held in 1981, is leg five of the 2002 World Series. After his Arlington success, Beat Hollow moves up into joint second place in the overall rankings, which are headed by the Godolphin-trained Grandera. Arlington is the venue for this year's Breeders' Cup meeting, which takes place in October. |
