Presto Vento sprints to victory
Presto Vento, ridden by Eddie Ahern, won the Weatherbys Super Sprint at Newbury.

The filly took full advantage of a good draw on the stands' side of the track to clinch the five furlong race with ease.

The victory continues trainer Richard Hannon's excellent record in the 135,000 Super Sprint, one of Britain's richest races for two-year-olds.

Presto Vento, a 6-1 shot, was his fourth winner in 11 years.

But it was one of his other runners, Hurricane Alan, who had been more fancied before the race and had been sent off as 9-2 joint favourite.

The other joint favourite Wunders Dream was two lengths adrift in second with Sir Edwin Landseer third at 10-1.

Sir Edwin Landseer also had a good high draw but jockey Kevin Darley surprisingly switched to the far side, as did many of the other jockeys.

"The stands' side is the place to be and when I saw the draw she was always my pick," said Hannon.

"I don't know where she will run now but she will certainly go back into a Group race - she is decent."

It was a stroke of good fortune for Ahern, who was only given the ride because stable jockey Dane O'Neill was suspended.
