Britain's David Millar is sixth. 1540: David Millar puts in maximum effort as he attempts to at least grab a place on the podium. He almost collides with a barrier, but it is too little too late and he finishes sixth. 1535: Tour of Spain winner Aitor Gonzalez finishes in 49 mins 12 secs and misses out on a podium finish. 1532: Colombia's Santiago Botero finishes a brilliant ride by slicing eight seconds off the previous fastest time, this despite apparently suffering from flu before he arrived in Belgium. 1529: France's Christophe Moreau finishes in a disappointing 11th, a minute down on the current leader. 1528: At 36.4km, Santiago Botero is the first to threaten leader Michael Rich, taking a second off the German's time at that stage. 1527: David Millar, who passed the second split still in fifth, almost comes off his bike at a corner but regains control. 1524: Germany's Michael Rich finishes in 48 mins 16 secs, a new fastest time. 1516: David Millar completes the first stage in 24.03 mins, fifth fastest. 1515: Australian Michael Rogers finishes the course in second. 1510: Spain's Igor Gonzalez de Galdeano moves to the top of the leaderboard, finishing in 48 mins 25.60 secs. 1508: Russia's Evegeni Petrov can only manage fifth overall, having begun the trial as many people's dark horse. 1502: Michael Rich is still setting the pace on course as he goes through the 20km mark in a highly impressive time. 1457: Bogdan Bondariew of Ukraine is the new leader. 1455: Germany's Michael Rich is having a fine race. He goes through the first split in a fastest time of 23 mins 39 secs. 1453: Bert Roesems gives the home crowd something to cheer by taking the lead but it may not last long. Igor Gonzalez de Galdeano has passed through the second split in a blistering time of 29 mins 50 secs. 1452: Britain's David Millar, favourite for the race, is the last man to go. 1443: Colombia's Santiago Botero, one of the pre-race favourites, sets off but his hopes of triumphing may be hit by illness. He arrived in Belgium suffering from 'flu. 1438: Viacheslav Ekimov's lead does not last long and Belgium's Bert Roesems promptly takes top spot. Roesems' compatriot Marc Wauters is now out on the course. 1434: Russia's Viatcheslav Ekimov is the new leader, after overtaking Frenchman Jacky Durand and finishing in 49 mins 38.80 senc. 1431: Two of the trial favourites, Igor Gonzalez de Galdeano of Spain and Michael Rogers of Australia, are out on the course. 1424: Mexico's Manuel Quinziato is the first man to go under 50 seconds, finishing with an impressive time of 49 mins 55.67 secs. 1416: Belgium's Bert Roesems sets a new fastest time at the second stage, ahead of the Italian Manuel Quinziato and Russia's Viatcheslav Ekimov. 1405: Italy's Manual Quinziato is setting the pace on the course, setting the fastest time at the second stage. 1400: Canada's Roland Green, world mountain bike champion, takes 10 seconds off Stuart Dangerfield's time to move into first place. 1357: Britain's Stuart Dangerfield takes the lead at the finishing line with a time of 50 mins 26.34 secs. 1353: Benoit Joachim of Luxemburg is the next to finish, slicing five seconds off the previous fastest time. 1351: Moldovan Igor Bonciucov is the first to finish the course, setting a modest time to beat of 51 mins 19.19 secs. 1348: Bert Roesems, the first of Belgium's representatives, receives a huge roar from the home crowd as he leaves the start. 1343: Veteran Jacky Durand of France sets off to the delight of the crowd, and Russian Olympic champion Viatcheslav Ekimov goes next. 1334: Canada's Roland Green takes a surprise lead at the first split, just edging ahead of Stuart Dangerfield. 1331: Britain's Stuart Dangerfield takes the lead after the first stage with a time of 24 mins 44.71 secs. 1326: Moldovan rider Igor Bonciucov is the first man out on the course and sets a time of 25 mins 06.67 seconds at the first stage. |
