| Sunday, 28 July, 2002, 15:33 GMT 16:33 UK Millar achieves Tour goal ![]() Millar says he has achieved his goal already David Millar told BBC Sport Online that he was "very, very happy" at winning the 13th stage of the Tour de France. The Scot claimed the victory after a devastating sprint from a five-man pack to win in Beziers 24 hours after one of the lowest points in his brief Tour career. The previous day had seen the Cofidis rider lose 40 minutes to Lance Armstrong and fall to 74th overall in the general classification. "I am very, very happy indeed," Millar told BBC Sport Online. "That was a goal - I was going to win a stage." Happy In the aftermath of his victory, Millar expressed the commonly held sentiment that Lance Armstrong's form was making life difficult for the rest. "I know I have to wait a couple of years before I can be competitive at the Tour de France but the good thing about that is by then Lance Armstrong will have retired," he joked. "I did what I came to the Tour to do, win a road stage, that was my main objective. "Winning the prologue didn't interest me, winning the white jersey didn't interest me, all I wanted was a road stage and that's what I've done. "I'm pretty happy because I told everybody I would as well. I talked to the team last night, and this morning, and I only say things like that when I mean it." |
