Representatives of both the the Superleague and the British National League will meet in Newcastle to discuss some form of possible merger.

Both Manchester Storm and Scottish Eagles have pulled out of the Superleague this month, leaving Britain's main professional league with only five clubs.

Many believe that their demise due to financial problems makes the Superleague unsustainable in its present form.

Some sources believe that there is hope of as many as five Scottish teams taking part in the new structure - Dundee Tex Allstars, Fife Flyers, a club based at the Eagles' former base in Ayr, plus representatives from Edinburgh and Paisley.

Dundee also travel to Newcastle to take part in the Findus Challenge Cup final.

And, as Scotland's only remaining full-time professional club, they believe that they are in pole position to become part of any revamped structure.

Coach and former British international Tony Hand said: "We were top of the league and qualified top of our section."

Hand believes that the Tayside outfit have a chance of winning the cup too.

"I think it's going to be a very tough weekend," he said.

"But the players have played really well all season.

"We are not over-confident. But, if we play to our full potential, we have a good chance of winning the Findus Cup."

Ken Priestley, formerly of Pitsburgh Pirates, believes that the British National League is of a high standard and booming.

"Over the last five, six or seven years over here, the development of British players and the quality of imports, the league is fantastic," he said.
