Da Matta triumphs again
Cristiano da Matta poses with his car ahead of the Portland Grand Prix
Da Matta was celebrating again in Portland
Brazil's Cristiano da Matta held off compatriot Bruno Junqueira to win his third race of the Championship Auto Racing Teams (Cart) season in the GI Joes 200 in Portland.

Da Matta, driving for Newman-Haas, has now won five of the last eight races dating back to last season, with all three victories this year coming on road courses.

Target-Ganassi's Junqueira finished 0.625 seconds behind, with Kool Green's Dario Franchitti third, 7.761 seconds back.

Visteon rookie Townsend Bell was a season-best fourth, but would have made the podium but for an error on the last stop.

Nervous moments

He thought his crew had finished refueling and took off, stalling the engine and dropping down from third.

Starting from pole position, da Matta immediately lost the lead to Kenny Brack of Target-Ganassi.

But Brack lost a wheel on the 61st lap, allowing Da Matta an open track ahead of him.

But he still endured some nervous moments in the remainder of the race.

On the 87th lap, da Matta had to avoid Adrian Fernandez as he locked his brakes and skidded off in front of him.

Junqueira also locked his brakes after a final pit stop, and couldn't make up the lost ground on Da Matta despite cutting the deficit to less than half a second.
