Paul Tracy's Team Green challenged the result of the race after he finished runner-up on 26 May. They lodged a second appeal last week after an earlier one was rejected. Race organisers have announced the hearing will take place at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. It will be conducted by Tony George, president and chief executive officer of the Indy Racing League, and a decision is likely within 30 days. The last time a victory in the Indy 500 was overturned on appeal was 21 years ago. Tracy finished second after passing Castroneves on the penultimate lap of the 500-mile race. The Indy Racing League had ruled that Tracy had passed winner Helio Castroneves on a yellow caution light. Tracy claimed he passed the Brazilian before the light flashed but Castroneves said he slowed down for the light and allowed Tracy to overtake. Team Green owner Barry Green claims he has video evidence supporting his driver. | See also: 02 Jun 02 | Motorsport 27 May 02 | Motorsport 26 May 02 | Motorsport Top Motorsport stories now: Links to more Motorsport stories are at the foot of the page. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
