Europe's Ryder Cup winning team are recovering from a long night of celebrations, following their dramatic victory over America at The Belfry on Sunday.

Europe won 15�-12� with all but two players contributing points on the final day.

Paul McGinley sealed the victory with his half point against Jim Furyk to spark scenes of jubilation amongst the European team.

"I feel a bit the worse for wear at the moment. We had a long celebration last night," Welshman Phillip Price sheepishly told BBC Five Live.

"I went to bed at about one o'clock but the champagne drinking and all the screaming and shouting was going on for so many hours I think it wore me out!

"We had a few drinks with [the American team] just after we'd finished, then we all went back to our team room.

"But we had David Duval in with us all evening. He went on to the early hours as well. He wanted to be with our team because he realised we were having such a good time!"

Price beat Phil Mickelson 3&2 with an incredible 25-foot pressure putt on the 16th to bring Europe within a half point of victory.

US team gracious in defeat

But the Welshman admitted that he was unaware of the score throughout his battle with the world number two.

He said: "I saw maybe the first five or six matches before I teed off but as soon as I teed off I didn't look at the boards.

"All I could see was a lot of blue. I tried not to look so I didn't know the exact scores, but I had this horrible feeling that it was going to come down to me.

"I was thinking it was going to be a difficult match.

"I'd played against him on Saturday morning and we'd lost, but I'd played quite well and I didn't think he was on the best of form. So I thought I had a chance."

Paul McGinley sealed the victory for Europe

European captain Sam Torrance gambled by putting his best players out first and the bold tactics were rewarded as four and a half of the first six points available went Europe's way.

Price said: "I think Sam's plan of trying to get as much blue on the board as he could worked. I could see a lot of blue and it definitely gave me a boost.

"People probably thought the last couple of games were in favour of the Americans. But I wanted to get a point myself, I have my own pride."

Price summed up the experience of bringing the Ryder Cup back to Europe following bitter defeat at Brookline three years ago as "awesome."

"The team has been fantastic, just great. It's amazing how much [being part of a team] inspires you.

"It's nice to have great guys around who are all pulling for you."

Team-mate Bernhard Langer admitted to being exhausted following a night of partying.

He said: "It's a great feeling. I'm exhausted and tired right now. I had very little sleep.

"The adrenalin is gone and the body is tired. But it is still exhilarating what happened these last few days."
