| Langer storms past Sutton ![]() Sutton suffered at the hands of German precision Bernhard Langer v Hal Sutton (Europe won 4&3) Bernhard Langer produced a commanding performance to earn Europe a valuable point in the Ryder Cup singles on Sunday. Langer, enjoying his 10th cap in the competition since 1981, had little trouble dismissing American opponent Hal Sutton 4&3 at The Belfry. The 45-year-old German showed why he is still one of the best iron players in the world with a dazzling array of approach shots that helped him to four up by the tricky 10th hole.
The 44-year-old from Louisiana found himself one-down at the fifth hole and things continued to get worse after that as Langer clinched birdies at the sixth and eighth. Despite dropping a hole at the 11th, Langer, with his trademark pinched facial expression, was firmly in control on the back nine. After the big, burly American hit his tee-shot out of bounds on the 13th, forcing him to concede the hole, the German could smell victory. His triumph marked the second time the European veteran has beaten Sutton in the singles event - the first came in 1985 when he won 5&4. |
