White gets flagged down
It's another defeat for poor Jimmy
Snooker star Jimmy White claims he was told to remove a Union Jack from his car at Royal Ascot.

The keen football fan was showing his support for England prior to their World Cup exit at the hands of Brazil.

White, 40, said a steward at the racecourse asked him to take down the 6ft x 4ft standard.

"I came in here and they told me to put it away," he said.

"We covered the car in flags and the police told us we had too many."

Nonsense

A spokesman for Royal Ascot dismissed the incident as a "misunderstanding".

He said: "If Jimmy White was asked to put away the Union Jack, that's nonsense and we apologise to him.

White, six-times World Snooker Championship runner-up, got that sinking feeling again as England crashed 2-1 to Brazil despite taking the lead through Michael Owen.

White and a friend had wagered 1,000 on Sven-Goran Eriksson's team to win the World Cup at odds of 16-1.

Maybe they should have stuck it on a horse instead.
