Chad wants Akono as coach
Cameroon receiving applause after winning the Olympic title in 2000
Olympic gold has been the highpoint of Akono's career

Jean Paul Akono, manager of Cameroon's gold medal winning squad at the 2000 Olympics has received an offer to coach the Chadian national team.

"I have been discussing with officials of the Chadian football federation about taking the job.

"By the end of May, we settled on the fact that I will be invited to Chad after the World Cup to finalise the contract," Akono said.

But both parties are still to agree on the terms of the contract, although he is to be put on a reported salary of 2000 per month.

"They were to send me a flight ticket but that has not happened and I am still waiting for word from N'djamena," Akono said.

After winning the Olympic medal in Sydney 2000, Akono was promoted to head Cameroon's senior national team in November of that year.

But he was dismissed after the Indomitable Lions lost a 2002 World Cup qualifier to Angola in Luanda.

If Akono is recruited by Chad, his main mission will be to get them to the next African Nations Cup in Tunisia.

The West African country has never qualified for a Nations Cup final.
