"There is only thing that is expected of the coach of Al Ahly - and that is to win. "After going two years without winning the league title, the board is not happy about the stuation. "I hope that I can do something about it," Bonfrere said. Manuel Jose, Bonfrere's predecessor, was dismissed from the job, despite winning the African Champions League and Super Cup. High expectations Failure to win the league title was Jose's albatross but the former coach of Nigeria's Super Eagles insists that he can cope with the pressure.
"Being able to live up to expectation is not easy. The pressure of managing a club of this level is always very high. "But every coach with a will to win should be able to handle it," Bonfrere said. The Dutchman, who has a one year contract, with a monthly salary of $18,000, resumes his post on 2 July. "I will be taking a look at the team during our European training tour, which was organised before I signed my contract." "After looking at the players, I will then have an idea of what I will have to do in order to succeed," Bonfrere said. | See also: 26 Jun 02 | Africa 18 May 01 | Africa 26 Apr 01 | Africa Top Africa stories now: Links to more Africa stories are at the foot of the page. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
