Waugh seeks new challenges
The fans loved watching Waugh bat
The Australian fans have made their feelings clear
Steve Waugh will not be rushed into a decision on his future following the end of the Ashes series against England.

He plans a period of reflection before deciding whether to make himself available for the tour to the West Indies later this year, or call time on his international career.

Speculation was rife that the selectors would make the decision for him following poor form with the bat, but Waugh proved he still has plenty to offer with a swashbuckling 102 in Sydney.

It's up to Steve to let us know what his plans are

Chief selector Trevor Hohns

"I haven't come to a decision yet. There's too much emotion around at the moment," said Waugh.

"I want to sit back, have a good think about it and sum up everything.

"You've got to play on if there's a challenge and if there's no challenge, there's no point playing on. So I've got to work out if there's something there that still challenges me."

Waugh's century at the SCG, in his 156th Test, took his career total to 10,031 runs, a figure exceeded only by Allan Border and Sunil Gavaskar.

The selectors have indicated that Waugh will be in their plans for the Caribbean - provided he wishes to carry on.

"We don't have to sit down and pick the team to the West Indies until March. There is plenty of time for him to consider everything," chief selector Trevor Hohns told the Sunday Telegraph.

Waugh's twin brother, Mark, retired from Test cricket after being left out of the side at the start of the Ashes series.
