| Silverwood ruled out by injury ![]() Silverwood was a late injury replacement in the squad Chris Silverwood joined England's long list of Ashes casualties when he was ruled out of the remainder of the Waca Test before the start of the second day's play. The Yorkshire seamer tore left ankle ligaments while bowling during the opening day in Perth. He went over on his left ankle on the second ball of the second over when bowling in the final session on Friday. And after scans at a local hospital it was confirmed he would not be able to take any further part in the Test. Silverwood said: "To say I'm frustrated is a massive understatement. Heroic "I've waited a long time to get back into the England team and wanted to make a big impression." Somewhat heroically, he managed to run out Justin Langer despite his injury for England's first wicket. Silverwood, who left the team hotel on crutches on Saturday, could become the third fast bowler to be ruled out of England's Ashes tour. Ironically, he only became part of the team set-up as a replacement for Simon Jones. Welshman Jones sustained cruciate ligament damage to his right knee during the first day of the opening Test in Brisbane. Darren Gough has also been sent home having failed to overcome long-standing knee trouble. |
