Craig White's side injury is the latest misfortune to hit England on their Ashes tour to Australia. BBC Sport Online charts the medical history.

24 September: England suffer their first blow as batsman Graham Thorpe pulls out of the squad for personal reasons after initially stating he was ready to tour

17 October: Darren Gough, Andrew Flintoff and Michael Vaughan are a cause for concern as they fly out after recent operations.

2 November: Fast bowler Steve Harmison breaks down with shin splints and misses the tour match against Queensland.

4 November: England suffer a huge blow after Gough's troublesome knee reacts badly, prompting hints from Hussain that he may miss the entire series.

6 November: Flintoff's hernia problem flares up in the match against Queensland, ruling him out of the first Test.

7 November: Simon Jones ruptures the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee while fielding on the opening day of the Brisbane Test.

8 November: The selectors ask Yorkshire fast bowler Chris Silverwood to fly to Australia to replace Jones.

9 November: Darren Gough admits he will not be fit to play any part in the series and is to fly home.

19 November: Ashley Giles' wrist is fractured while batting in the nets and Andrew Flintoff is ruled out of the second and third Tests because he is still recovering from a hernia operation.

21 November: Batsman John Crawley misses the second Test after suffering a thigh muscle injury. Michael Vaughan plays despite a sore knee.

25 November: Paul Collingwood and Gareth Batty are put on stand-by for the third Test. Fast bowler Andy Caddick undergoes a scan on his back.

29 November: Caddick fails a fitness test, but replacement Chris Silverwood damages his left ankle on the opening day.

30 November: Silverwood will play no further part in the match of the tour after a torn medial ligament in his ankle is confirmed.

1 December: Alex Tudor needs six stitches after being hit on the head by a bouncer from Brett Lee. He also complains of blurred vision.

2 December: England decide to rest Vaughan for the first half of the one-day VB Series because of ongoing knee problems.

6 December: Off-spinner Jeremy Snape's right thumb is broken by a ball from Lee during a game against New South Wales.

12 December: Flintoff flies home after failing to regain full fitness. Adam Hollioake is called up as a replacement.

19 December: All-rounder Ian Blackwell is given a scare when he is hit on the hand in the nets by a ball from Harmison. No fracture is revealed.

27 December: Having failed to win back his place for the fourth Test, Matthew Hoggard goes into hospital for an operation on an ingrown toe nail.

28 December: A scan reveals Craig White has torn a side muscle during the Melbourne Test, making it unlikely he will play in the final game in Sydney.
