Michael Vaughan hit a timely century on his return from injury as England drew their final warm-up match before the Ashes.

Vaughan, who was returning from knee surgery, reached his ton midway through the afternoon session of the final day against Queensland.

He went on to make 127 before being trapped lbw by spinner Nathan Hauritz.

Vaughan, who resumed on an overnight score of 49, had some fortune along the way - he was dropped four times.

Nightwatchman Matthew Hoggard was the only casualty of the morning session, out for one in the first over of the day.

Vaughan was then given good support by Mark Butcher as England sought valuable batting practice ahead of Thursday's first Test.

But Butcher fell five runs short of his first half-century since his arrival in Australia when he was caught off the first delivery after lunch from Ashley Noffke.

England captain Nasser Hussain made 28 before becoming Hauritz's second victim and John Crawley became the 20-year-old's third, registering just seven runs.

There will now be serious question-marks concerning Crawley's place in the side.

He is woefully short of form, unlike Kent's Robert Key who could play ahead of him at Brisbane.

Alex Stewart was unbeaten on 30 at the end of the day's play but Andrew Flintoff, also returning after surgery, made just three.

England were replying to the 582 amassed by Queensland in their first innings.

But bad light stopped play on Monday to signal a draw.

There was bad news, however, for England as bowler Darren Gough suffered a setback in his return from injury.

The Yorkshire star's knee was swollen and he said he was feeling some discomfort after bowling practice.

He has been sent to England's Academy in Adelaide for intensive rehabilitation.

England have called-up Surrey bowler Alex Tudor as cover, as Durham's Steve Harmison is suffering from shin splints.
